Ethics Across the Curriculum and Research Stipend Recipients Announced

To advance our vision of having an ethics module in every ºÃÉ«ÏÈÉú course, fifteen $3,000 stipends are being granted to faculty for integrating 3-hour ethics modules into their courses.  The Ukleja Center for Ethical Leadership has awarded $400,000 in Ethics Across the Curriculum stipends since the program was initiated in 2005.  The 2021-2022 proposal review committee, chaired by Danny Paskin (Journalism and Public Relations), selected the following faculty stipend recipients:

• Shadnaz Asgari – Ethics of Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence in Healthcare (Biomedical Engineering)
• Andrea Calabrese – Ethics in Engineering (Civil Engineering and Construction Engineering Management)
• Navdeep Singh Dhillon – Ethical Issues in Power Generation and Energy Usage (Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering)
• Sara Dozier – Equity in Science for Future Teachers (Science Education)
• Niloofar Bavarian Ellis – Community Organizing in Public Health: Ethical Considerations (Health Science)
• Christine El Ouardani – Racial and Social Justice Ethics in Qualitative Methods (Human Development)
• Jana Fogaca – Ethical Practice in Applied Sport Psychology (Kinesiology)
• Bo Fu – Embedding Ethics in Computer Science Education (Computer Engineering and Computer Science)
• Lauren Heidbrink – Ethics in Community-Based Research (Human Development)
• Jayne Howell – Ethical Ethnography: Applying Anthropological Guidelines in Global and Local Research (Anthropology)
• Kara Miller – Teaching Ethics with High Impact Practices in Applied Anthropology (Anthropology)
• Janet Muñiz – Ethics in Interviewing Immigrant Populations (Sociology)
• Bridget Rogala – Harm Reduction in Public Health (Health Science)
• John Scenters-Zapico – What are your Ethics and Identity?  The Role of Ethics in Understanding Ourselves and Others (English)
• Sophea Seng – Ethics in Implementing Social Justice Projects in Ethnic Studies  (Asian and Asian American Studies)

To strengthen its research pillar, the Ukleja Center also offers $5,000 Faculty Ethics Research Stipends to support original research and contribute to the body of knowledge in disciplinary and interdisciplinary ethics.  $90,000 has been awarded since this program began in 2013.  The review committee, chaired by Gwen Shaffer (Journalism and Public Relations), is pleased to announce the following 2021-2022 research stipend recipients: 

• Michelle Taylor – What about Early Childhood Education Teachers?  Understanding Teachers' Personal and Professional Experiences in Relation to their Practice (Family and Consumer Sciences – Child Development and Family Studies)
• Sarah Taylor – Ethics in Sexual Decision-Making: A Study of Contraceptive Control in Young Adults (Family and Consumer Sciences – Child Development and Family Studies)
