Dr. Giulia Togato

I am a researcher specializing in psycholinguistics, with a focus on profiling untrained versus trained bilinguals (i.e., translators and interpreters, T&I) through the lens of cognitive psychology. I have held research and faculty positions at the University of Granada (Spain), Pennsylvania State University (USA), and California State University Long Beach (USA). I am the founder and Principal Investigator of the  (PsychoLinguistic Lab in Cognition, Behavior, Bilingualism, Translation), within the College of Liberal Arts at California State University Long Beach. I actively collaborate on international research projects to advance understanding in my field.

I have designed 20 new courses and taught 65 sections across three languages, covering topics such as psycholinguistics (for psychologists and linguists), psycholinguistics for T&I, research methods in T&I, consecutive interpreting (English/Spanish), quantitative research in T&I, Spanish linguistics, translation theory, written and sight translation (E/S), and Italian and Spanish language instruction. My teaching spans both undergraduate and postgraduate levels.

Beyond academia, I have worked as a translator and consecutive interpreter from a young age, specializing in editorial and specialized translation as well as community interpreting in Italian, Spanish, and English. I serve as a peer reviewer for academic journals and publishing houses, contributing to research in translation and psycholinguistics. Additionally, I consult for language service providers as a psycholinguistic expert. Currently, I am an active member of the Innovation Council at GLOBO Languages, where I contribute to integrating cognitive research into AI-driven remote and in-person language services.
