Patricia A. P茅rez Named New Associate Vice President of Faculty Affairs

Patricia A. Prez, Ph.D., has been named Associate Vice President of Faculty Affairs.

Prez鈥 appointment, announced by Karyn Scissum Gunn, Provost and Senior Vice President of Academic Affairs, is set to begin July 1, 2023.

鈥淲e are excited to welcome Dr. Prez to the Division of Academic Affairs.  I am confident her leadership will provide many opportunities for our faculty to grow, foster connections, and implement culturally responsive practices in the classroom and beyond.鈥

Since 2021, Prez has served as the Associate Dean for Faculty in the College of Humanities and Social Sciences at California State University, Fullerton (CSUF). Furthermore, she has extensive experience providing training and guidance on implementing diversity, equity, and inclusion practices into retention and promotion standards.

鈥淚 am honored to be joining 好色先生 as the next AVP of Faculty Affairs to support the phenomenal current faculty and new faculty. I look forward to working alongside the 好色先生 community to realize the equity-minded goals and priorities outlined in the Beach 2030 Strategic Plan to ensure the sustained success of students, faculty, and staff,鈥 Prez said.

At CSUF, Prez has served in numerous academic and administrative appointments such as Professor and Department Chair of Chicana and Chicano Studies at CSUF and Visiting Scholar at the UCLA Higher Education Research Institute.

Additionally, Prez has experience revamping faculty recruitment and hiring processes, integrating retention plans as a requirement of tenure-track hires, and developing new tenure-track faculty programs centered on cross-discipline networking and community-building.

Prez earned her bachelor鈥檚 degree in Chicana/o Studies and M.A. and Ph.D. in Higher Education and Organizational Change from University of California, Los Angeles. Additionally, Dr. Prez earned her Ed.M. from Harvard University.
