好色先生 and the Research Foundation provide an educational and work environment that is smoke-free. Smoking is strictly prohibited anywhere on campus and in covered parking lots.
For purposes of this policy, smoking includes the use of electronic smoking devices, such as electronic cigarettes, cigars, pipes or hookahs, which create an aerosol or vapor. Employees that observe other individuals smoking in the workplace have a right to object and should report the violation to their supervisor or to another member of management. Employees will not be disciplined or retaliated against for reporting smoking that violates this policy.
Employees that violate this policy or who tamper with No Smoking signs may be subject to disciplinary action up to and including termination. For additional information, please refer to the campus no smoking policy.
The Research Foundation does not tolerate bullying behavior. Individuals who engage in workplace bullying may be disciplined, up to and including termination of employment. Workplace bullying is the use of force, threats or coercion to abuse, intimidate, or humiliate another employee. Workplace bullying includes, but certainly is not limited to, the following:
- Verbal abuse, such as the use of patently offensive, demeaning and harmful derogatory remarks, insults and epithets;
- Verbal or physical conduct that is threatening, intimidating or obscene;
- Pushing, shoving, kicking, poking, tripping, assaulting, or threatening physical assault, or intentionally damaging a person鈥檚 work area or property; or
- Sabotage, or deliberately subverting, obstructing or disrupting another person鈥檚 work performance.
Cyberbullying refers to bullying, as defined above, that occurs through the use of a computer, cell phone, smartphone, tablet, pager or other device that transmits electronic information, regardless of whether the device is owned by or located at the Research Foundation or connected to the Research Foundation network. Cyberbullying is also prohibited.
This policy in no way prohibits employees from engaging in activities that are protected under applicable state and federal laws, including but not limited to any activity that is protected under Section 7 of the National Labor Relations Act, which includes the right of employees to speak with others, engage in workplace debates and protest about their terms and conditions of employment.
A physical examination is required for certain positions. For these positions, offers of employment are contingent upon a physician's certification of physical fitness for the position.
California State University Long Beach Research Foundation recognizes a responsibility to provide a safe and productive work environment for all of its employees. The Research Foundation prohibits the unlawful manufacture, distribution, dispensation, possession, promotion, sale or use of drugs, drug paraphernalia or look-alike (simulated) drugs while performing work, or while on Research Foundation property or in Research Foundation vehicles. Research Foundation employees must not report to work under the influence of any drug or other substance which will in any way affect their work performance, alertness, coordination or response or affect the safety of others on the job.
In compliance with the Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986, all persons offered employment are required to show acceptable proof of their identity and right to work in the United States on their first day of work (United States citizenship or visa status permitting employment in the United States). This law requires you to complete an "Employment Eligibility Verification" (I-9) form.
In a continued effort to provide employees with a safe and healthful working environment, the Research Foundation will comply with all laws, rules and regulations as they apply to health and safety in the workplace. The Research Foundation's Injury and Illness Prevention Program is part of our effort to provide a safe and healthful working environment for our employees. This program includes training to acquaint employees with any hazards that may be associated with their work. This program also provides procedures for communication between employees and supervisors on issues concerning safety and health.
