On September 28, 1949, 169 students showed up for class in an apartment building in Long Beach. By the following year, Long Beach residents had set their sights on 322 acres that would become the institution鈥檚 permanent home. Since then, a Cal State Long Beach education has powered economic growth and social mobility for hundreds of thousands of alumni and several generations, forever changing the future of Southern California.
