How to Apply: Major-Specific Admissions Requirements
Cinematic Arts (CINE)
Note to new applicants:
Our curriculum has changed! The Narrative Production and Theory & Practice Options have been combined into a new degree. Starting Fall 2024, there is no longer a portfolio requirement to study Directing or Cinematography. When applying, you should select the B.A. in Cinematic Arts. (Note: You might see the B.A. in Film & Electronic Arts, Theory & Practice Option as your only choice, depending on when you apply. Either choice will enroll you in the new degree program.) Within our degree, there are now seven sub plans: Cinematography, Documentary Production, Critical Studies, Directing, Post-Production, Producing, and Screenwriting. You will select a sub plan to focus on during your final two years in the program.
The faculty consists of industry professionals and media scholars with diverse skills that encompass film, digital, and broadcast production. Media history and aesthetics are taught as an integral part of production practices.
***Please note: the Cinematic Arts Minor is currently not accepting applications.***
First year students interested in Cinematic Arts (CINE) are admitted as "Pre-Cinematic Arts."
During their first few semesters at ºÃÉ«ÏÈÉú, students should complete lower-division general education requirements as well as the lower-division CINE courses. Continuation in the major is subject to meeting specific lower-division course and GPA requirements at ºÃÉ«ÏÈÉú that indicate the student's ability to succeed and complete the major.
For more information regarding the University admissions for first year process, please visit the University Freshmen Admission Eligibility website.
All current and continuing ºÃÉ«ÏÈÉú students will be moved into the Cinematic Arts degree option after completing all Major Specific Declaration Requirements. Please click on the "College of the Arts" link once redirected to the MSDRs page.
Transfer students must apply to the Cinematic Arts degree option and must apply for admission to ºÃÉ«ÏÈÉú by November 30th for Fall admission or by August 31st for Spring admission.
Transfer students who do not complete the required lower-division film courses (MSDRs) must do so during their first semester at ºÃÉ«ÏÈÉú. (Note for Transfer Students attending a California Community College, is being updated to reflect new MSDR course articulations.)
