Professional Competencies for Heritage Spanish Speakers Certificate

ºÃÉ«ÏÈÉú SLP undergraduate students have the opportunity to earn a Professional Competencies for Heritage Spanish Speakers Certificate. This option is available to students with existing language competence in Spanish.

The requirements for this certificate include 

  • Must be a matriculated student in ºÃÉ«ÏÈÉú SLP Undergraduate Program
  • Students must demonstrate proficiency in Spanish by 1) an AP score of 4 or 5 in Spanish Language and Culture; 2) the equivalent of SPAN 201B, 200, or 250 at another institution; 3) a placement test score of Intermediate High or better. Students who do not meet the above requirements must take SPAN 201B or 250.
  • Students must complete the following courses
    • Required Courses: SPAN 300, SPAN 315
    • Electives (6 units required): Choose from SPAN 225, 227, 335A, 335B, 461, SPAN 494*, or TRST 465
    • SPAN 494 may be substituted with SLP 462. Students enrolled in the undergrad SLPA practicum course are required to primarily work with Spanish-speaking patients and families.
