Program Learning Outcomes (PLOs), Assessment Metrics/Timeline, and Relevant Standards

The Department of Speech-Language Pathology seeks excellence in the academic and clinical preparation of students in speech-language pathology, in conducting research, and in the provision of services to the University and to the community-at-large (Department Mission).  The Department aspires to provide our students with the knowledge and skills needed to solve clinical problems, administer comprehensive assessments, and implement evidence-based interventions for a diverse client population in both medical and school-based settings (Department Goal).  Faculty have established a set of graduate program learning outcomes (PLOs) which are consistent with this mission and goals and aligned with national and state standards. PLOs are formally evaluated by the Faculty on a rotating basis, given suggested assessment metrics (and other relevant data).  This ensure the program maintains consistent standards in these areas and revises academic and curriculum programs as needed.

 

Students can implement appropriate listening and professional oral communication skills with individuals with different backgrounds and needs, including clients and families, clinical supervisors, interpreters, and applicable interdisciplinary team members.

Students will demonstrate accountability, integrity, professionalism, cultural competence/humility, and ethical duty of confidentiality when working with clients, caretakers and other professionals from diverse backgrounds.

Students implement evidence-based practice to effectively administer measures to identify communication disorders in individuals with different backgrounds and needs and interpret assessment results appropriately based on the individual's cultural and linguistic background.
