Education Specialist Credential Program Student Teaching

Spring 2025 ESCP Student Teaching Applications are due no later than Tuesday October 1, 2024 at 5pm.

Incomplete and Late Application are NOT accepted

Student Teaching is the culminating field experience in the Education Specialist Credential Program.  It is completed during the final semester(s) of the program where ESCP candidates apply and integrate the pedagogy they have learned in their other course work to actual classroom experience.  As two programs are in transition, traditional ESCP Preliminary candidates meet student teaching requirements based on their credential program pathway (either 4 or 5 full days a week for the duration of the semester). Intern requirements vary. Candidates pursuing a second credential under the new ESCP standards will complete a shortened student teaching experience of 5 full days a week for 8 weeks of the semester. 

Candidates also have the support of a University Supervisor who observes and conferences with them on a regular basis.

All student teaching placements are made by the Office of Clinical Practice in schools and districts which ºÃÉ«ÏÈÉú has current Affiliation Agreements on file.  Self placements are not permitted.  The Office of Clinical Practice works in conjunction with the Education Specialist Credential Program to find the best possible placement for student teaching. Many factors are taken into consideration when placing students, including student preferences. However, preferred placements are not guaranteed and are dependent on available placements and program discretion. 

  • Be admitted to ºÃÉ«ÏÈÉú as a matriculate student. Student Teaching CANNOT be done through Open University. If you are graduating from ºÃÉ«ÏÈÉú Fall 2024 with a degree (bachelor's or master's), you must reapply to the university for Spring 2025, on  by November 1, 2024 to continue in Spring 2025 and complete Student Teaching. If you have been away from the university for a semester or more without an approved Leave of Absence, you must reapply to the university by the November 1st deadline.
  • Maintain 3.0 GPA in pedagogy/methods courses with no grade lower than "C" in any program course.
  • Provide valid CTC Clearance (Certificate of Clearance, Multiple or Single Subject Credential, Education Specialist Credential, Child Development Permit, Activity Supervisor Permit, Valid Credential or valid 30-Day Sub Permit)  Must include the Document Number and Expiration Date.
  • Valid TB clearance (Skin tests, blood tests and risk assessments are valid for 4 years; chest x-rays are valid for 8 years. Must be valid through the end of the student teaching semester).
  • Submit official proof of meeting the Subject Matter competency requirement through official passing CSET scores, transcripts showing a degree in an exact credential area or verification of meeting subject matter competency through a coursework evaluation.
  • Submit a complete application packet via DocuSign by the deadline. Incomplete applications will not be accepted. Late applications will not be accepted.

Student Teaching Application Instructions


All steps are required for traditional students and interns. Only complete applications will be accepted.

Step 1: Complete and Gather the Following Documents

  • - Complete the electronic form to indicate your district preferences. 
  • . Take a screen shot of the receipt and save it for uploading with your application
  • Current ºÃÉ«ÏÈÉú Unofficial Transcript - Download these from your MyºÃÉ«ÏÈÉú and save them as a PDF. 
  • Proof of valid CTC Certificate (Certificate of Clearance, Multiple or Single Subject Credential, Education Specialist Credential, 30-Day Sub Permit, Credential, Activity Supervisor Permit, Child Development Permit. Take a screen shot from the CTC website showing Document Number and Expiration Date
  • Proof of meeting the Subject Matter Competency Requirement (Passing CSET scores, Subject Matter Waiver Letter, transcripts show a degree in the exact credential area or verification of completed course evaluation.)
  • Proof of Valid TB Test - Skin tests, blood tests and risk assessments are valid for 4 years; chest x-rays are valid for 8 years. Must be valid through the end of the student teaching semester.
  • Proof of Valid CPR – must provide a valid copy of infant, child and adult CPR Certification, if available. Required prior to completion of the credential program.
  • Proof of Registration and test date for the RICA exam or passing RICA scores. Candidates must provide a receipt from the Pearson website that they have registered to take the RICA exam and have a test date selected prior to student teaching beginning. Student MUST attempt RICA prior to the beginning of student teaching.

Applications must be submitted No Later Than Tuesday October 1, 2024 at 5:00pm to be Eligible for Spring 2025 Student Teaching!
Application that do not include passing CSET (if applicable) scores will not be accepted. Candidates that receive passing scores after the deadline may petition to submit their application after the deadline. Petitions must include passing scores and will be considered on a space available basis if placements are available. Do NOT submit a petition or an application until you have official passing scores for all required exams.
