UDCP Student Teaching
Fall 2024 UDCP Student Teaching Applications are due no later than March 15, 2024, at 5:00pm.
Please read all the information below carefully before submitting your application.
Student Teaching is the culminating field experience in the Urban Dual Credential Program. It is completed during the final 2 semesters of the program where UDCP candidates apply and integrate the pedagogy they have learned in their other course work to classroom experience. The student teaching year consists of two 16-week, 6-unit assignments under the guidance of a Mentor Teacher and a University Supervisor. One assignment is in the classroom of an elementary, general education Mentor Teacher and the other in a classroom of a special education (M/M or ESN) Mentor Teacher. At least one of the placements must be in a classroom in which the students are from a diverse cultural, linguistic, racial, ethnic, or socio-economic background, different from that of the Student Teacher.
Student teachers also have the support of a University Supervisor who observes and conferences with the student on a regular basis.
All student teaching placements are made by the credential program. Currently all UDCP Placements are made in the Garden Grove Unified School District, Little Lake City School District or Long Beach Unified School District depending on where your cohort is placed during the semester that you begin the program.
- Be admitted to ºÃÉ«ÏÈÉú as a matriculate student.
- Have a 2.67 overall GPA or a 2.75 in the last 60 semester/ 90 quarter units
- Maintain 3.0 GPA in program courses with no grade lower than "C" in any program course.
- Provide fingerprint clearance (Certificate of Clearance or valid 30 Day Sub Permit)
- Valid TB clearance (Tests are valid for 4 years and must be valid through the end of the student teaching semester). If you don't have a current TB test, make an appointment with Student Health Services as soon as possible.
- Pass all parts of the CSET: Multiple Subjects exam and submit copies of your official scores or show proof of completion of a CTC approved Subject Matter Preparation Program or provide verification of a bachelors degree in Liberal Studies.
- Complete the Basic Skills Requirement
- Submit a complete application packet to the Teacher Preparation Advising Center by the deadline. Incomplete applications will not be accepted! Late applications will not be accepted.
Complete applications must be submitted by Friday March 15, 2024 for Fall 2024 Student Teaching.
Follow the steps below carefully to submit your Fall 2024 Student Teaching Application online.
Step 1: Complete and Gather the following documents:
- . Take a screen shot of the receipt and save it.
- MyºÃÉ«ÏÈÉú Unofficial Transcripts - Download these from your MyºÃÉ«ÏÈÉú and save them as a PDF.
- Proof of valid Certificate of Clearance or 30 Day Sub Permit. Take a screen shot from the CTC website.
- Proof of meeting the Basic Skills Requirement (CBEST scores, SAT scores, ACT scores, coursework verification, etc.)
- Passing CSET Multiple Subject Scores or Verification of Completion of a CTC approved Subject Matter Preparation Program or proof of bachelors degree in Liberal Studies.
- Valid TB Test
- Proof of Valid CPR – must provide a valid copy of infant, child and adult CPR Certification. Required program to recommendation of credential
- Proof of Registration for the RICA exam or passing RICA scores. Candidates must provide a receipt from the Pearson website that they have registered to take the RICA exam and have selected a test date.
Step 2: Complete the Student Teaching Application at the link below and upload all the items listed above. Application must be submitted via DocuSign no later than 5pm on Friday March 15, 2024.​
All students must submit their student teaching application online. If you have any questions, reach out to the Teacher Preparation Advising Center.
Application that do not include passing CBEST and CSET (if applicable) scores will not be accepted. Candidates that receive passing scores after the deadline may petition to submit their application after the deadline. Petitions must include passing scores and will be considered on a space available basis if placements are available. Do NOT submit a petition until you have official passing scores for all required exams.
