Student Affairs Surveys

Student Affairs conducts some campus wide surveys. Information about when these and other surveys are administered can be found on the Student Affairs Survey Calendar. It is the hope that sharing this information can help others on campus make decisions about when and how to administer their surveys to reduce student survey fatigue. In the interest of transparency and collaboration (and, again, reducing student survey fatigue) additional reports may be available, including sharing de-identified student level responses with proper authorizations.

Campus Pulse ask a different sample of ºÃÉ«ÏÈÉú students about their overall experience, and other topical or timely issues, each month. The goal is to better understand where students are thriving or in need of additional support, and the methodology – focusing on unique subsamples of students across different time points – is designed to address survey fatigue. The survey was developed and is administered by the Student Affairs Office of Evaluation and Assessment.

National College Health Assessment (NCHA)

The National College Health Assessment (NCHA) is conducted by the Student Health Services (SHS). The NCHA focuses on a variety of behaviors related to physical and mental health, including exercise, diet, drug use, sexual behavior and mental health and well-being. For questions about NCHA please contact Heidi Girling, Office of Health and Wellness Promotion, at heidi.girling@csulb.edu.

National Survey of Student Engagement (NSSE)

The National Survey of Student Engagement (NSSE) is conducted by the Office of Evaluation and Assessment. The NSSE focuses on academic engagement, including various academic and social behaviors. For questions about NSSE please contact Gary Coyne, Office of Assessment and Evaluation, at gary.coyne@csulb.edu.

Beginning College Survey of Student Engagement (BCSSE)

BCSSE collects data about entering students' prior academic and co-curricular experiences, as well as their expectations for participating in educationally purposeful activities during the coming college year. It was administered at ºÃÉ«ÏÈÉú in 2024 and 2022. Raw results can be made available to members of the campus community.
